Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens is an American artist and rapper, best than her stage name Queen Latifah. Her work as Queen Latifah in television, film and in music has earned her several accolades. They include the Golden Globe Award two Screen Actors Guild Awards Two Image Awards A Grammy Award Additional Grammy Nominations Emmy Award Nomination and an Academy Award. Queen Latifah grew up in Newark, New Jersey. The daughter is Rita Owens Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. The couple divorced when Latifah was age of 10 years old. Latifah was a student at the Catholic School in Newark, NJ and was educated through her family's Baptist Church. The stage name Latifah meaning delicate and very kind in Arabic was bestowed to her by her aunt when she was only eight. Latifah, 5-foot-10" tall forward on the team at her high school, was always a tall girl. As part of a school production she performed Home from The Wiz. Latifah started beatboxing for the group known as Ladies Fresh. Latifah became a member of the Flavor Unit's original group, which included a number of MCs and producer DJ Mark 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King created a demo of the rap Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. He gave the recording to host Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was signed by Latifah following her hearing of the song. She released her first single, Wrath of My Madness, in 1988.
