April Ross

April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball players to win medals at more than one Olympics. Alix-Klineman is set to compete alongside April Ross in Tokyo for her third gold in the coming days. Ross aims to earn her Olympic the first medal of gold, however, she also hopes to earn even more. As she turns 39, it could be her last chance to win the gold medal at an Olympics. She's certain that the top prizes are within reach. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that if the team plays well or at all they could win a gold. Therefore, I'm hoping to have the chance also. Ross was born in 1982 in Costa Mesa California where she resided with her parents and sister. Apart from participating in a variety of sport, she also attended Newport Harbor High School. When she was a student in the prep school she was a participant in basketball, indoor volleyball as well as running track. Though she excelled in indoor volleyball, it was clear that her performance was above average. In her time at high school, she played middle blocker outside setter and hitter at the tennis court as per her bio at the college. In recognition of her accomplishments she was awarded the Gatorade Award for the National Player of 1999. The skills she showed in volleyball also won her the Orange County Athlete of the Year award in 2000. Ross and Klineman have been doing what they do in 2017. However, Ross was a major player on the beach volleyball circuit prior to the pair. She's won big tournaments twice with different partners. One of them has become an icon in the world of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy was her partner for six years, between 2007 and 2013. She also coached Klineman as well as herself. Alongside Kessy Ross, she was a major force on the international circuit winning a world title in 2009. The duo eventually captured an Olympic silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the legend team which took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, took their opponents to claim the gold. Ross was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. In 2016, the duo won bronze in the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a college athlete for USC Trojans before the start of her professional career. She was a player in high school and in some years before she hit the beach professionally. Ross's playing time with the Trojans was impressive. When she was a freshman in 2000 the Trojans' performance earned her the Pac-10 and NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. She also helped the Trojans reach their first Final Four. After her sophomore year, she experienced a terrible personal loss and still was able to be named an All-American. In her last two seasons within the team, she guided the Trojans towards the summit by winning two three consecutive championships at the national level. Her individual achievements have cemented her place as a legendary volleyball player. Ross was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the nation's best female collegiate player. Ross was a major in International Relations at USC. Sadly, Ross mom Margie did not get to see her daughter ascend to the highest levels of beach volleyball stardom. As of 2001, when Ross was in her sophomore year in USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. This meant that Ross remains close to her deceased parent. Margie has inspired her throughout her life, as well as on the beaches.
