Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born into a musical family on the 9th of August, 1963 in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. as well as a cousin of the singing sensation Dionne Warwick. When she was a kid, she sang in her New Hope Baptist Church Choir in Newark. By the time she turned fifteen, Houston was singing professionally as a backing vocalist with her mother on Chaka Khan's song from 1978 Im Every Woman. Later, she provided background vocals for Jermaine Jackson and Lou Rawls and even her mother. She began working as a lead vocalist with the band from New York called Material and it was the excellence of her work as a vocalist with them that attracted the attention of major record labels including Arista which she signed with in 1983. This is where she would remain for the remainder of her professional career. Whitney Houston, her debut album released in 1985, was the highest-selling album for the debut artist. A number of hit singles, such as The Greatest Love of All, Saving My Love For You How Do I know That You Love Me as well as The greatest Love of All were released on the album. They set the stage for her to beat the Beatles with seven consecutive US top 10s. In its initial US year the album had sold more than 3 million copies. It went on to be purchased by millions of people around the world and earned her her first Grammy. Its Whitney 1987 release, with the songs Where Do Broken Hearts and I Wanna Dance With Somebody as hits, helped build upon the successes she'd had. However, the 1992 movie The Bodyguard sealed her spot among the top-selling musicians of all-time. While the movie itself and her performance in it were not highly appreciated, the album's soundtrack and her cover of the Dolly Parton song I Will Always Love You topped the singles and albums charts for months and sold 44 million copies around the globe. Her daughter Bobbi was born March of 1993, a year following her wedding to Bobby Brown. Around this time that her widely documented drug use began and by 1996 she was a daily drug user.
Dana Bash or Dana Ruth Schwartz in the way she's commonly known, is an American anchorwoman reporter, as well as CNN's political reporter.
